All About Us!
The Washington County Horse Council was established in 2003 by a group of 4-H leaders and parents who recognized a need to promote equestrian education and events in the county. Almost from the start, it was decided that these events needed to meet the needs of the broader horse-owning and horse-loving community.
From our first open horse show hosted by the WCHC in 2004, we have expanded our efforts to offer a wide range of clinics, shows, and other events in various disciplines. We have invested in jumps, a wireless timer system, and trail obstacles. We have partnered with Washington County Parks and Recreation and Project Open Space to replace the dangerous clay and grass footing in the horse ring at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center with all-weather footing. We have partnered with the United States Hunter Jumper Association Outreach Programs in order to allow local riders to be recognized for their efforts on a regional level. We have brought in top rated professionals to conduct workshops and clinics. We have great plans for the future as we seek to fulfill our mission of promoting equestrian activities, developing local horse facilities for equestrian pursuits, and increasing equestrian knowledge in our county.
All of this has been fun, but it is also a lot of work. All WCHC members are volunteers who are committed to doing the best job we can. Everyone is welcome to join in our planning sessions and volunteer to help implement those plans.
So mark your calendars and plan on attending our next meeting now.
