Join 4-H today!
4-H is sponsored by the University of Maryland and administered by the county extension office. Signing up is as easy as filling out a form and turning it into the local extension office. There are two types of clubs in Washington County.
Community clubs pull children who are working on a variety of project areas together. Project areas may include things such as arts and crafts, cooking, sewing, electricity.... Special Interest clubs focus on a single project area. For more information on non-horse 4-H clubs please call the local extension office at 301-791-1404 or see the link for the County 4-H Website.
However, if you are interested in horses, then Washington County is proud to offer a choice of four great clubs. The focus of an equestrian 4-H club is helping kids learn about our favorite animal--horses! Parents are expected to take an active role in attending meetings and events with their child. While all clubs encourage their members to be enrolled in a regular lesson program, club membership does not include riding lessons or horse training. Instead club activities are designed to support achievement of the state 4-H Horsemanship Standards. If you are interested in signing up for lessons or need training help, see the WCHC contributors list for area businesses that offer these services.
We encourage both both horse owning and horse loving kids ages 8 to 18 to check us out. Feel free to contact each of our club leaders and visit club activities as you decide which club fits best into your family schedule and meets your personal equestrian goals
